Friday 14th Nov Yet another fine day. Spend the morning in Martinborough having a conducted tour of the Bottling plant of which Jonty is a director. The plant bottles nearly all the wine produced in the area. Today they are bottling a full tanker load of Pinot Noir but since the wine has not yet been sold it is not being labeled. It will be stored at the plant in very large crates for the time being and then labeled when they know which country it is going to be exported to. Lunch at the Medici Cafe in town and then go to see Jonty's parents Garry and Heather. Their house is also on the farm but at the other end set on high ground with grand view accross the Martinborough plain. Garry collects and restores old MG cars and is getting ready to take eight of them to a rally in a few weeks time. Friends are coming from all over the world to drive them to the rally. He has two large sheds in which to house the collection which also includes an old Wolsley and a Riley Pathfinder not to mention the Grey Fergie. There is also a covered yard where he stores the wrecks that he has canibalised for spare parts. His workshop puts me to shame as it is so tidy. Have supper with them and watch a magnificent sunset accross the Martinborough plain with the Cook Straits in the distance and on the horizon the snow capped peaks of the Kiakoura Ranges over 100 mile away.
